ADOPTION GRANTS

FORE Adoption Foundation
A nonprofit foundation that helps families to overcome some of the initial financial burden of adoption (home study, legal fees, etc.). For more information visit their website at: www.foreadoption.com

Home for Good Foundation
Offers resources, grants, loans and matching funds, focusing on adoption of older children, children with special needs and sibling groups. For more information visit their website at: www.hfgf.org

Shaohannah’s Hope
This group awards financial grants to qualified families already in the process of domestic and international adoption. For more information visit their website at: www.shaohannahshope.org

The Boatner Family Foundation
This foundation provides grants from $1,000 up to $10,000. They require an agency approval, a financial statement, and a formal application. Contact: The Boatner Foundation, P.O. Box 132272,   The Woodlands, Texas 77393-2272.

The Gift of Adoption Fund
Provides financial assistance to moderate- and low-income families seeking to adopt. Grants are available in amounts up to $5,000. If money is the only thing holding you back, make sure you emphasize this in your application so you receive priority. For more information visit their website at: www.giftofadoption.org

National Adoption Foundation Grant Offers grants based on financial need. For more information visit their website at: www.nafadopt.org

The ABBA Fund
The ABBA Fund provides financial assistance to Christian couples who are called by God to expand their families through adoption and who need help with the “cash flow crunch” posed by adoption expenses. Adopting couples may request financial assistance in any amount, based on their needs. Financial assistance provided by the ABBA Fund will depend in part upon the needs of the couple and the resources available to the ABBA Fund. The couple must be committed to raising their children in accordance with Scriptural principles. The couple will enter into a covenant agreement with the ABBA Fund whereby the couple agrees to reimburse the ABBA Fund in manageable monthly payments. A Child’s Desire
A Child’s Desire is a non-profit charity that provides grants for families seeking to adopt hard to place children, children with special needs and children over the age of eight. For more information visit their website at: www.achildsdesire.org

God’s Grace Adoption Ministry
God’s Grace Adoption Ministry is a non-profit organization helping adoptive parents overcome the financial burden of adopting children. It is not an adoption agency, but rather works in cooperation with the agency to assist the family with their financial needs. Helpusadopt.org
HelpUsAdopt.org is a national non-profit 501 (c)3 financial assistance grant program that will provide qualified couples and individuals with grants of up to $15,000 towards their adoption expenses. Grants are awarded twice a year in June and December. For more information visit their website at: www.helpusadopt.org

Domino Foundation
Domino Foundation is a non-profit charitable foundation that provides grants to prospective adoptive couples. They are a non-profit charitable foundation that helps bridge the financial gap that stands in the way of prospective adoptive couples, who otherwise would provide loving homes to adopted children. ADOPTION LOANS

National Adoption Foundation
This organization has established a $9 million revolving loan bank to provide unsecured loans to adoptive families. Your payments and interest then help other adoptive parents. NAF also offers fixed-rate MBNA Home Equity Loans. Both loan programs are financed through MBNA. The foundation has a limited program to provide grants from $500 to $4000 to assist families with adoption costs. You can call the foundation to request that an application packet be sent to you. National Adoption Foundation Loan Program

AFFUSA, A Loan Processing Company
The AFFUSA offer loan locating programs for Medical, Legal, Adoption Expenses. For more information visit their website at: www.apfusa.com

First Again
FirstAgain.com provides loans to cover the cost of adoption at low interest rates for families with good credit. The application process is simple and fast. For more information visit their website at: www.FirstAgain.com

Family Legacies
Family Legacies, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit organization. It is the purpose of Family Legacies, Inc. to help make adoption a reality for prospective parents who do not have the funds to pay for the total cost of the adoption. The mission of Family Legacies is to provide interest free loans to couples who practice the Christian faith and are called by God to expand their families through adoption, who might otherwise not be able to adopt. ADOPTION CREDITS AND SUBSIDIES

Adoption Tax Credit
The Adoption Tax Credit grants adoptive families an income tax break to cover adoption expenses, as well as for expenses incurred in domestic adoptions of children with special needs. The amount increases slightly every year. For information from the Internal Revenue Service regarding how your family may be eligible for the tax credit, please review Publication 968 on the IRS Web site, the Official web page for the IRS adoption tax credit and necessary forms: www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc607.htmll

Dependency Exemption
Adoptive parents may take the same dependency exemption on their income taxes for their adopted children, and children placed with them for adoption but not yet finalized, as they would for their biological children. The exemption reduces their taxable income. The amount of the dependent exemption is adjusted annually to reflect the cost of living. The main point to remember is that families must provide more than half of their children's support to list them as exemptions.

Employer Adoption Benefit
Employee Adoption Benefit Programs. Many employers will help with costs by reimbursing adoption expenses with a cash benefit of up to several thousand dollars. If your employer does not offer this benefit, call Adoption and the Workplace at the National Adoption Center (800-862-3678) for materials to guide you in requesting adoption assistance from your employer.

Military Non-Recurring Subsidy
The military will reimburse active-duty personnel up to $2000 reimbursement on adoption expenses for one child or $5,000 for siblings. Reimbursement is made after the adoption is finalized and if the adoption is completed through a licensed agency. Eligible personnel should complete DD for 2673 and see Defense Finances and Accounting Service Instruction 1341 for more information. Additional details can be found by calling 1-303-333-0845.

Adoption State Subsidy
Visit www.nacac.org to see a list of all states. Some states offer a subsidy, usually for special needs children. The definition of 'special needs' varies between states.

Need Help With a Fund-Raiser?
Adoptive mother Valerie Gagnon operates A Mother's Love, a fund-raising service for adoptive parents. For more information visit her website at: www.amotherslovefundraising.com 

Shades of Us
Shades of Us is an organization created to help adoptive families raise money to offset the cost of adoption. Through its online store and through wholesale availability, adoptive families can sell products to family and friends. Families earn 40% of wholesale selling and 25% for orders of family and friends who purchase items online. For more information visit their website at: www.shadesofus.org

Casual Fridays
As your employer if they would be willing to allow a “Casual Fridays” with all proceeds raised going to your adoption fund. Each person who wished to participate receives will receive a casual Friday ticket and your adoption fund will receive $5 for every ticket/coupon sold. This is a great way to not only increase your adoption budget but a great way to have fun as well.

One Cause
One cause is a simple way to earn contributions for your adoption by earning rewards from your favorite retail merchants. You can invite friends and family to join in your cause and when they shop at the participating merchants, a percent of their purchase going to your cause. www.onecause.com
